2007
Half the size of Brasov, this 12th century Saxon town is one of the liveliest in Romania. Nominated as the European Capital of Culture for 2007, Sibiu originally had 39 defensive towers and was the best fortified town in Romania. Wonderfully romantic to explore, Sibiu has picturesque squares, intimate courtyards, wide stone staircases, cascading rooftops and narrow cobbled, twisting streets. Here you will find a thriving music and café culture – a town and people with true character.
Medieval Sibiu has been nominated European Capital of Culture for 2007 - it is one of the prettiest and most vibrant towns in Romania. The Brukenthal museum is the largest in Transylvania and houses the finest art gallery in Romania.
