Seal from First Temple Period found at Kotel supports biblical accounts

The new find supports the biblical rendering of the existence of a governor of Jerusalem 2,700 years ago, says archeologist.
A rare, well preserved Hebrew-inscribed and stamped piece of clay from the First Temple Period belonging to the “governor of the city” of Jerusalem was recently discovered during excavations by the Israel Antiquities Authority in the Western Wall Plaza.
According to Dr. Shlomit Weksler-Bdolah, excavator of the site on behalf of the IAA, “The Bible mentions two governors of Jerusalem, and this finding thus reveals that such a position was actually held by someone in the city some 2,700 years ago.”
The relic was unearthed during a joint dig with the Western Wall Heritage Foundation in the northwestern section of the Western Wall Plaza dating to the First Temple period (6-7th centuries BCE).
“This extraordinary find is a lump of clay, stamped and pre-fired,” Weksler-Bdolah said on Monday. “It measures 13 x 15 mm and is 2–3 mm thick. The upper part of the seal depicts two figures facing each other, and the lower part holds an inscription in ancient Hebrew script.”
Weksler-Bdolah said she believes that the seal had been attached to an important transport and served as some sort of logo, or as a tiny souvenir, which was sent on behalf of the governor of the city.
“It is likely that one of the buildings in our excavation was the destination of this transport sent by the city governor,” she said.
“The finding of the seal with this high-rank title – in addition to the large assemblage of actual seals found in the building in the past – supports the assumption that this area, located on the western slopes of the western hill of ancient Jerusalem, some 100 m west of the Temple Mount, was inhabited by highly ranked officials during the First Temple period.”
Weksler-Bdolah added this is the first time that such a seal was found in an authorized excavation.
The seal was presented to the Mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, during his visit to Davidson’s Center, near the Western Wall, last week.
After the completion of the scientific research, the seal will be on temporary exhibit in the mayor’s office.

The expansive, breathtaking new Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC, may be funded by Evangelicals, but it has more than a few touches from the modern State of Israel.
"Step inside, bevakasha.”
As visitors to the new Museum of the Bible in Washington moved from one room of the immersive walk-through experience depicting “The Hebrew Bible,” those were the words that greeted them.
The announcer didn’t explain or translate bevakasha, the Hebrew word for please; instead it was just casually slipped it into the narrative inside the 40,000 sq.m., more than $500 million museum in downtown Washington, which opened to the public in November.
On a Monday morning in mid-November, on just the third day it was officially opened, visitors were already streaming through the museum’s eight floors. While museum organizers say it would take about 72 hours to visit every exhibit and read every placard, I had about two hours to take in as much as I could. I left with the impression that the museum was not only an ode to Judaism but also to the modern State of Israel.

Defense Ministry exposes Palestinian terror price list of how much prisoners get on crime scale.
The Palestinian Authority paid terrorists and their families over $347 million last year, according to its own records, the Defense Ministry reported to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Tuesday.
The average income of a Palestinian is $580 per month, which is what the PA pays terrorists who are sentenced to three to five years in prison.
The PA pays terrorists who are sentenced to 20 years or more in prison – in other words, those who committed more severe crimes, and likely were involved in killing Israelis – five times that each month for the rest of their lives.
Terrorists who are Israeli citizens receive a $145 bonus, which, when added to the amount PA pays for the most severe crimes, comes to over $2,900, more than the average Israeli income of around $2,700 per month. There are also increases in pay for being married and for each child a terrorist has.
Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said, “The PA pays over a billion shekels a year to terrorists and their families, thus encouraging and perpetuating terror.”

Aus Protest zeigt eine Gruppe von drei Personen eine israelische Fahne und wird daraufhin von pro-palästinensischen Demonstranten angegriffen. Einen Monat später erhalten die drei Wiener eine Strafverfügung der Wiener Polizei – wegen Störung der öffentlichen Ordnung müssen sie 100 Euro zahlen oder zwei Tage ins Gefängnis gehen. Wir haben mit Matthias F.* gesprochen, der die Strafverfügung erhalten hat.

Matthias: Mit zwei Freunden bin ich zu der anti-israelischen Demonstration vor der US-Botschaft gegangen, um sie zu beobachten, weil wir uns für den Nahostkonflikt interessieren. Meine Mutter ist Israelin, ihre Familie sind Flüchtlinge aus dem Irak und Libyen. Ein arabischsprachiger Freund aus Israel konnte uns einige der gerufenen Parolen übersetzen, beispielsweise den arabischen Schlachtruf zum Massaker an Juden "Khaybar, Khaybar, ya yahud, Jaish Muhammad, sa yahud" und die persische Parole "Marg bar Israil" ("Tod Israel").
Weitere Sprechchöre lauteten "Intifada" und "Kindermörder Israel". Wir waren geschockt von diesen Parolen und wollten dies nicht unwidersprochen lassen. Antisemitismus und Hass auf Israel dürfen nicht geduldet werden.
